Breasts that are larger than normal cause aesthetic and functional problems.

The inability to wear all clothes comfortably, the inability to move comfortably, the formation of bra marks on the shoulders due to breast size, redness and skin infections under the breasts, neck, shoulder, back and waist pain are the problems experienced due to large breasts.

Breast reduction surgery brings the breasts to the desired size and provides a more aesthetically beautiful appearance. The functional properties of the breasts are also preserved during the reduction.

There are many techniques defined so far in breast reduction surgeries.

In my personal practice, I prefer central technique breast reduction surgery. The biggest advantage of this technique is that the breast tissue can be easily shaped within itself. Another reason for my preference is that it can be easily and safely applied to breasts of all sizes. The most important factor in choosing a technique is the surgeon's experience and dexterity in this regard.

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgery takes an average of three hours.

There are scars in the form of a vertical line that runs downward around the nipple, followed by a horizontal line under the breast. These scars resemble an upside-down “T” and are called the inverted T technique. A corset must be worn for one month after the surgery. The use of a corset limits edema in the breasts and provides pain control. The effect of gravity on the breasts is reduced and tension is prevented.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will there be scars after breast reduction surgery?

In breast reduction surgeries, since excess skin is removed along with breast tissue, scarring is inevitable. The scar is circular around the areola and extends downward in an inverted T shape. The quality of the scar is directly related to the surgical technique and wound healing. Initially red for the first year, the scar gradually fades and becomes less noticeable over time.

2. Do you use drains in breast reduction surgery?

Although the use of drains is generally preferred, in my personal practice, I prefer not to use drains.

3. Can I breastfeed after breast reduction surgery?

Since breast reduction surgery is a functional procedure, breast functions are preserved. There should be no issues with breastfeeding after the surgery.

4. How long should a compression garment be worn after breast reduction surgery?

It is recommended to wear a compression corset for one month after breast reduction surgery. Wearing the garment helps speed up the healing process.

5. When can I start exercising after breast reduction surgery?

You can start exercising one month after breast reduction surgery.

6. Can the breasts grow and sag again after breast reduction surgery?

If the conditions that caused breast enlargement reoccur after breast reduction surgery, the breasts may grow and sag again. Additionally, sagging can occur over time, especially in the lower part of the breast due to gravity, even without an increase in breast volume. In such cases, a corrective surgery can be performed.
